Artist’s Statement

Yoko melts and shapes glass in the flame and in the kiln. For her, working with liquid glass is “forced tension”. First planning out the design, the materials, and process and then being ready to ignite the burner. Working with glass fascinates me because she has one attempt at a piece; it all comes down to a moment of high concentration. If the planning and preparation were not good enough, the result is unsatisfactory. It cannot be corrected or fixed. It happens right there in one moment.
