Artist’s Statement

I enjoy, and truthfully, need to be creative and surrounded by beauty. The creative process brings me peace and is a delight to my daily life. Creating art touches my soul and better represents the person I am than any words ever could. Words can’t describe a feeling the way a movement or a color can…and together, it is beyond description. Visually we can communicate with the part of the soul that does not understand words. The understanding of the message or story emanating from an art piece is truly the connection of soul to soul.

It is clear that the ambiance of a space influences all who enter and all that occurs within that space. The atmosphere influences the flow of the mind and the way in which actions are perceived. With this in mind, I begin a piece by thinking about the feeling I want to have when I am in the presence of the piece. I envision the way that it will affect the space that it is in and those in its company. My art work is a journey that leaves a path for the observer to follow…go back and study the details, there is a very large world in the smallest curve or nuance.

As I work with mediums of paint, plaster and glass I am continuously reminded that there are an infinite number of works that can come out of putting those materials together. I am inspired by the wonderful detail of classic baroque and gothic design and the amazing details in our natural world and how those can be influenced by modern energy, color and material. Unifying what is familiar with something new, essentially weaving times together in a tapestry, so it can be appreciated again…for the first time. I love seeing something that I’ve pictured in my mind become a physical reality…like a dream coming true that I can share with those around me.
