Artist’s Statement
Marty came to Minnesota in the 1980s to study art, got lost near the Mississippi River, and ended up staying long enough to put down roots and build a studio.

Sculpture and making things has always preoccupied his mind. From fabricating large outdoor steel sculpture to building custom furniture to casting bronze and iron, his passion for making things is driven by my love for materials, tools, technique, and watching things evolve.

Metalsmithing, the craft of hammering metal, has him caught in its grip. Copper, iron, and bronze sculptures are made by forming metal with hammers and chasing tools. In some cases, patina is applied to the metal, speeding up the oxidation process, and producing beautiful, rich surfaces. The sculptures are worked, using traditional methods, into outdoor artwork that sometimes find their way indoors.

Price Range $40 - $100
